September 2008....unless you are Joe Buck. Upon hearing that the Brewers had reached the playoffs for the first time since 1982, Joe Buck, doing the Cowboys-Redskins game, said something like this (I do not have the exact quote):
Yes, but who are they going to pitch? Sabathia has went on 3 days rest 3 starts in a row, Sheets did not look good on Saturday. You have to wonder what kind of condition they will be in when their series with the Phillies kicks off.
Joe, can the Brewers and their fans be happy for 5 fricking minutes? I know you are a miserable human being (I do not know why, you have a pretty good job because of your Dad, you will keep your job for the next 30 years despite the fact you are not very good at what you do). I know you are a Cardinals fan, but let's be happy for Milwaukee for a few minutes before they worry about what they are going to do in the NLDS.
One does have to wonder:
What was Anquan Boldin even doing on the field in in the last 30 seconds of a blowout loss?
Hopefully, he is OK and will be back on the field soon.
With 1:54 to go in the 4th quarter, Brett Favre threw his 6th TD pass of the day. The Jets led 54-35. The Jets decided to go for two points. They got it, and now led 56-35.
Oooh boy, running up the score. Last year, people were all over the Pats for it. I do not remember the Pats ever going for two points in the final stages of a blowout. Why was Favre even in the game? Why were they throwing the ball with such a comfortable lead late in the game? I will agree the Pats did run up the score last year (Wash, at Buffalo), but it was all the talking heads could talk about for days when they did it. Saint Favre and Mangenius do it, and it is no big deal, not one word has been spoken.
Such a double standard, it makes me sick.
Classic Red Sox This Week. They struggle against Zach Jackson (who had a 4.00 ERA in AAA), but then knock around Cliff Lee to clinch a playoff spot.
*A lot was made yesterday about Mike Martz returning to coach (or coordinate) against his old team, the Detroit Lions. But a bigger story may have been J.T. O’Sullivan coming back to beat his former team, the Lions. Mike Martz Thinks J.T. O'Sullivan Can Be the Best Quarterback He's Ever Coached, which begs one question: why was he never given a chance when both guys were in Detroit?
*I am still skeptical about the Sox’s chances in the post-season, but once you are in, you always have a chance (cliché alert, cliché alert). Thet are the champs, and although ANH manhandled us during the season, they are still going to have to go up against Beckett and Lester. I will not include Dice-K as a top starter until he is able to throw strikes. Still, I will concede that you can do worse for a 3rd starter than Dice-K.
*Cortland Finnegan took back an interception for a TD yesterday. He is quickly becoming one of the best corners in the game.
*Tyler Thigpen may be the worst NFL QB since Spurgeon Wynn. I truly believe Herman Edwards is trying to get fired.
*Yesterday’s Patriots debacle was more on the defense than anything the offense did, but I would still call Tampa Bay and see if a 6th round pick would net you Jeff Garcia.
*The Raiders absolutely gave one away yesterday. Still 1-2 with a tough loss at Buffalo should not cost Lane Kiffin his job. Alas, it looks like it will.
*Boo Weekley not only helped the US win the Ryder Cup this weekend, he made himself a ton of money in endorsements down the line. People think of golfers as spoiled country club snobs, but Weekley is anything but that. What a personality.
*ESPN called Joey Porter “a man of his word” last night. I guess if predicting victory ten times, and delivering once qualifies as a man of his word, then yes Joey Porter is a man of his word. He is also still a moron. Hey Joey, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
*Let’s hope the Red Sox celebration, if they win tonight, is a quiet one. Winning the division is a long-shot, but as long as it is a possibility, uncorking champagne over the wild card is lame, IMHO.
*First thing I said to my brother when they ruled Matt Cassel was in the grasp? Where were these refs last year during the Super Bowl?
*Look up disappointment in the dictionary and there may be a photo of Matt Schaub. The whispers are getting louder that the Texans may be better off playing Sage Rosenfels.
*Solomon Wilcots is great in studio for the NFL Network. Doing colot commentery? Absolutely terrible. Between him and Ian Eagle, I was ready to jump out a windown yesterday. And the fact that the Fins ran for 12,000 yards did not help either.
