Ok, I despise hockey. Cannot stand it, cringe anytime I see a network devote any time to this sport. I truly believe NHL teams make trades not to make their teams better, or even for financial reasons, but simply to keep the NHL in the news. Made a trade, ESPN has to eport it. Otherwise, the NHL would slip deeper and deeper into oblivion.
Just a theory.
Clever headline, huh? Matt, we will miss you, you did a great job last year after many, including me, doubted your value. Best of luck in KC.
It will be interesting to see what the Pats get for Cassel. A lot of people point to the Matt Schaub trade as a benchmark (In March 2007, the Houston Texans
acquired Schaub from the Falcons for second round picks in 2007 and
2008. As part of the deal, the teams also swapped first round picks in
2007, exchanging the Falcons' 10th pick with the Texans' 8th pick.
, who of course the Patriots signed yesterday. Schaub had played well in a handful of games for the Falcons in 2006.
But what about former QB Rob Johnson? Rob Johnson was obtained by the Buffalo Bills
in 1998 after three years as a backup for the Jacksonville Jaguars. The
Bills gave a first and fourth round pick for Johnson; the first rounder
became star RB Fred Taylor, who of course the Pats signed on Friday. Rob Johnson had one start under his belt, playing well in place of injured started Mark Brunell in Week One.
I think teams are more protective of their picks now, but it will be very interesting to see what the Chiefs give up for Matt Cassel.
Very quietly, marvin harrison refused to take a pay cut for the 2009 season. According to the Indy Star, Harrison seeks his Colts release, which is amazing because the media makes him out to be this great guy (despite being involved in a murder) and his he is clearly not the player he used to be. this will probably get the same attention that randy moss (coming off a record breaking season where his value would probably never be higher) got last year for taking less money to stay in new england. basically nothing.
